It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here a week. Time does fly when you’re having fun … and doing Gods work ♥ The entire team was thankful that the high temperatures were 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. Actually, this morning was actually a little cool with lots of clouds making it a perfect day to finish up the roof sheeting. With a 7AM start, the sheeting team was able to pick up right where they left off yesterday and finished up by around 10:30.
When the team took our morning break, there were these amazing cookies waiting for us. So starts the gaining weight on the build … lol … yummy.
I finished up the caulking job inside, assuring a tight seal between the wall OSB sheets and along the floor. When Joe was done with sheeting, we were able to remove all the wall braces.
While we were working on that, other team members started to install windows. The first two windows fit right in, and were completely level!
We once again were treated to an amazing lunch at a local church. Dixie, the ‘famous’ cook made chicken and noodles and a ton of sides. Joe had to make sure he tried all three desserts: Butterfinger pie, Apple pie and a chocolate chip cookie … yummy.
After lunch, we started blocking the trusses. Blocking is screwing in short pieces of wood between the trusses, making the entire roof a continuous mass. This step is key in qualifying for wind mitigation credits on home insurance and makes the roof overall much stronger. I was cutting the pieces, and Joe was playing attic monkey to figure out how to get these installed in very tight spaces. We got a few trusses done, and will get back to this job on Monday.
It’s really starting to look like a house now!
Another couple joined us at a local pub for some dinner. The food was great, but the highlight was a robot that delivers the drinks to the table playing Star Wars music. On the way out, we put a pin in Florida to show where we’re from.
Overall, a great week of building. God is good.
