OK, so we drove over 1,000 miles north with the goal of escaping the Florida summer heat? The Real Feel here was 106 … way hotter than Celebration?
We started our day at 7AM, so we could beat some of the heat. We were once again greeted by an amazing sunrise! We typically get to see sunsets in Florida … but us retired people are rarely up early enough for sunrises, so they are extra special.
A pastor from a local church came to do another inspirational devotion. After a prayer, we all join hands and say ‘Habitat’s not a hand out, but a hand up” as we all raise our hands together. It’s truly one of my favorite parts of the day.
Every Thursday at 9AM we get another special community surprise. A local donut shop delivers donuts for our morning break. Of course, we already had breakfast, but ….
The Sullivan community is so welcoming. The donuts are great, but don’t think we’re without snacks every day from a local group.
Yeah, we did also get some work done. The roof sheeting team’s first job was to move the scaffolding to the front of the house.
After putting on the fascia board, they got right back at sheeting the front part of the roof.
While they were doing that, the inside crew worked on completing the rat runs and hurricane clips. We took turns at caulking all the seams to assure a tight seal.
It really started to get hot around 11, so we were ready for a wonderful lunch at a local church …. with air conditioning ♥ Yvonne on our team is a nurse, and decided to stop by a local store to get some ‘Liquid IV’ powder for everyone working on the roof. It was a very thoughtful gesture, and I’m sure helped replenish some lost electrolytes.
Since it was really starting to heat up, we collectively decided to head back to our RV’s right after lunch. We will be able to finish up the roof sheeting tomorrow morning in cooler weather.
For dinner, our team was invited to join an Ambucs meeting. “AMBUCS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community service organization creating accessible and adaptive communities. Through adaptive tricycles, community programs, and therapist scholarships, our network of chapters expands access to movement, care, and opportunity.” The Sullivan chapter is very active, building many ramps for people in need. They will be building a ramp on the Habitat house we’re building to meet the needs of the disabled daughter.
Overall, another wonderful (HOT) day. I’ll close with an inspirational message that someone from our team wrote over the front door. God is good.
