Today is the last day of our 6 week build. We decided to work a half day today, so we can start our long trip back to Florida. The house is almost done from a volunteer perspective. They still need contractors for: the electric and gas meters, kitchen countertop, appliances, all sinks and toilets. Once the contractors finish their work, the local volunteers will jump back in to put the finishing touches on everything.
Joe decided to install one of the closet bi-fold doors. The doors went right in first shot!
In between helping Joe, I had the job of doing a first pass cleanup of the showers which is not an easy task with all of the drywall dust, spackle and other ‘stuff’ that has been collecting on them since they were installed quite some time ago.
Terry and Karen finished up the shelving in the closets, and then started installing bi-folds.
Marc installed the front and back door handle/lock hardware.
Richard finished installing the front shutters.
For lunch today, the team decided to go out to a local restaurant for our last lunch together for this year. It’s always hard to say goodbye, but we hope to be back next year. It’s been another rewarding experience working with amazing people. We are very blessed to have this opportunity to give Sheila a “hand-up, not a hand-out”. God is good.
