We were blessed with another wonderful working weather day in the mid 60s. Once again, we started our day with a devotional and prayer. It was a nice surprise to have three additional volunteers from Agri-fab join us for the entire workday. Agri-fab is the local company that donated a 13 acre lot in Sullivan where our Habitat village is being built.
Our first job was to finish up the fascia on the front of the house. It’s a simple job of placing the fascia, pre-drilling the holes and nailing finishing nails to hold it in place.
After the fascia was up, we needed to move the scaffolding over so that work could be done on the front porch. Wow, those young guys from Agri-fab made that job look easy.
We were then ready to start the siding on the side of the house. It’s a great wall to learn the technique since it has straight runs with no cut-outs required. After some training, we were ready to start the first sheet. While it’s important that all the sheets are level, it’s especially important that that first piece is level as that sets the base for the entire side.
Once we got that first piece on, we were crusin’. We installed up to the point where a bathroom vent fan will be positioned.
At 10:00, it’s break time! A local group brings enough snacks for the whole week, so there are always a variety of snacks and sweets.
By lunchtime, we had completed the siding as high as we could for now. We were all looking forward to lunch today. Dixie, from Elim Springs Church, is an amazing cook. Today, she made her famous lasagna. But … not only the traditional version … she also makes an amazing seafood lasagna AND a vegetable lasagna. And of course … there’s garlic and cheesy bread with six different choices for dessert. They typically host our group in their meeting hall in their beautiful church, but since there was construction going on there, Dixie invited us all to have lunch at her home. Yeah, it was an hour and a half lunch ♥
As you can imagine, it was a bit tough going back to work. But, we got right back to siding. Before we could start the back of the house, Bill had to install J molding around the door. You may be wondering … why is called J channel? Well, it looks like a J … lol.
Joe had to cut one of the first row pieces to fit the cement pad and door.
While we were busy on siding progress, there were other projects underway:
Bill and Jo worked on the fascia for the porch beam.
Gene got the attic access done. He used these cool corner clamps to make sure everything is square. Yeah … he has some cool tools!
And .. he got the bathroom vent penetration completed so we can continue with the side siding.
Gary installed a new post and a double mailbox.
Marc finished up all of the insulation in the house after the plumber installed the final plumbing lines.
The electrician was there finishing up some wiring and installing the meter pan.
Overall, another amazingly productive … and delicious day. We’re looking forward to sleeping late tomorrow, lol. God is good!
